NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development today announced that Joe Calloway, business author and Speaker Hall of Fame recipient, will be the keynote speaker at the Commissioner’s Luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 during the 62nd Annual Governor’s Conference on Economic and Community Development. The conference theme will focus on “Team Tennessee” showcasing how our workforce, education and transportation systems are aligning to support the state’s economic development mission. Hundreds of state and local officials, business leaders and economic development professionals will convene at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel for the event held Oct. 13-14 in Nashville.
“I’m excited to participate in this year’s Governor’s Conference as we celebrate ‘Team Tennessee’ and highlight the collaborative effort behind Tennessee’s reputation of being the best place to live, work and do business,” TNECD Commissioner Randy Boyd said. “When it comes to recruiting new companies and retaining existing industries, we strive to set our state apart from the rest. Joe applies the same strategy to business leaders and entrepreneurs. He shares insights and inspiration on delivering outstanding customer service and becoming a ‘category of one’ which are just the attributes to which we aspire for the state of Tennessee.”
Calloway is a business author, consultant and speaker with a client list including companies like Coca Cola, IBM, Cadillac and American Express. He also works with small to mid-sized business groups including franchisees, medical practices, law firms and professional services groups.
He is the author of “Be the Best at What Matters Most” and five other ground-breaking business books including “Becoming a Category of One,” which received rave reviews from The New York Times.
“In a world that sees sameness, it’s vitally important to demonstrate differentiation from your competition, whether you are a state, a company, or even a non-profit,” Calloway said. “Market leaders and top performers are able to focus on what matters most and create value in a way that not only creates, but sustains success. I want to thank Governor Haslam and Commissioner Boyd for giving me the opportunity to address an audience filled with the people who are making a difference in Tennessee.”
Calloway has served on the faculty of the Center for Professional Development at Belmont University and has presented at business conferences in countries around the world including Italy, Sweden, South Africa, England, Swaziland, Canada, Mexico and throughout the Caribbean.
He lives in Nashville with his wife Annette, and their daughters Jessica and Cate.
