Conference to focus on “Team Tennessee MVPs”

NASHVILLE—The 63rd Annual Governor’s Conference on Economic and Community Development will be held Oct. 27 – 28 at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville. The conference theme will focus on “Team Tennessee MVPs” and showcase Tennessee’s innovative  strategy in economic and rural development, entrepreneurship, workforce and more.

The conference will be attended by more than 800 economic development leaders, state and local elected officials, and business professionals.

“This year’s Governor’s Conference will focus on Team Tennessee’s MVPs: most valuable people, places and policies,” TNECD Commissioner Randy Boyd said. “Throughout the conference, the attendees will hear from a few of my fellow cabinet members as well as excellent speakers who will supply them with new ideas and knowledge that can be passed on to their communities. I am excited to be able to discuss the many great things happening in economic and community development throughout our state, and I look forward to the conference as we come together to celebrate Team Tennessee.”

The two-day conference includes 15 educational breakout sessions and 3 plenary sessions.

Plenary sessions will explore Tennessee’s big economic development wins as well as health and prosperity, and rural development. Along with Commissioner Boyd, Agriculture Commissioner Jai Templeton and Tourist Development Commissioner Kevin Triplett will provide an update from the Governor’s Rural Task Force, which recently made recommendations to promote sustainable growth in Tennessee’s rural communities. In addition, Health Commissioner John Dreyzehner will give an overview on the importance of the health/prosperity link and how to address challenges while enhancing opportunity for all Tennesseans.

Martin Frey, former director for Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development, will be the keynote speaker for the Commissioner’s Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 27. Frey is the first person to climb the Seven Summits – the highest peaks on each continent – and sail the Seven Seas. Frey also spent 13 years working as the senior director for Cisco.
