Nashville-based manufacturer investing $9 million, creating 70 jobs

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe and Military Systems Group, Inc. (MSG) officials announced today that the Nashville-based manufacturer will expand its operations in Davidson County and anticipates creating 70 new jobs during the next five years.

“The strength of Middle Tennessee’s robust economy is built around companies like MSG,” Rolfe said. “We look forward to the benefits these new high-quality jobs will have for residents in Davidson County.”

Founded in 1977 to manufacture the legendary .50 caliber machine gun, MSG now designs and manufactures specialty weapons mounting systems for various U.S. national defense programs. The company caters primarily to the U.S. Government and also supports U.S. partners and allies around the globe.

MSG will expand its in-house engineering, design, machining, production and assembly operations to accommodate increased demand.

“As one of Tennessee’s oldest privately-owned specialty manufacturing companies, we are pleased to continue to expand and invest in our hometown of Nashville,” Joe Whelan, president and owner of MSG, said. “One of Tennessee’s greatest strengths is its people, many of whom are fellow veterans, and it is a distinct privilege to be able to serve alongside them as we continue to grow and support our nation’s defense.

“This investment will bring enhanced capacity to an already well-established company, and along with our quality people, will allow us to continue to be an innovative industry leader into our fourth decade and beyond,” Whelan added. “We are proud to partner with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development as we work together to continue to make Tennessee an ideal place to live and work.”

Local officials and the Tennessee Valley Authority praised Military Systems Group for expanding in Nashville.

“MSG’s decision to add 70 jobs in Nashville is a testament to our city’s thriving economy,” Matt Wiltshire, the Nashville Mayor’s Office Director of Economic & Community Development, said. “We are thankful for MSG’s investment and look forward to its future prosperity.”

“TVA and Nashville Electric Service congratulate Military Systems Group on its decision to expand operations in Nashville,” TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley said. “It’s always an exciting day when we can celebrate companies committed to investing in themselves and the Valley region.” We are proud to partner with Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and Tennessee Department of Economic Development to celebrate this announcement.”
