Premier Advanced Technology and Energy Provider to Invest $4.8 Million, Create 50 Jobs
NASHVILLE –Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty along with Babcock & Wilcox Intech Inc. officials announced today the company will consolidate its Chattanooga operations by building a new facility in the Centre South Riverport Industrial Park. Babcock & Wilcox Intech Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Babcock & Wilcox Company, will more than triple its footprint in Chattanooga, resulting in an investment of $4.8 million and the creation of 50 new jobs.
“Tennessee has a long-standing tradition of excellence in energy and advanced technologies, and we are proud to be home to many major technology companies throughout the state including Babcock & Wilcox Intech Inc.,” Hagerty said. “When a company chooses to expand in Tennessee, it underscores the importance of having a strong, capable workforce in place, and I thank Babcock & Wilcox Intech for offering these high quality jobs to our citizens and for further investing in Chattanooga.”
“Babcock & Wilcox Intech Inc. is expressing our commitment to this community and our customers by more than tripling the square footage of our current operations while adding fifty technical positions,” Allen Steagall, operations manager for Babcock & Wilcox Intech Inc., said. “This expansion increases our capacity for solving customer challenges through new and innovative approaches while shortening the length of the inspection and repair process at operating nuclear plants.”
Babcock & Wilcox Intech Inc.’s new facility will house its current Chattanooga workforce and allows room for additional growth. It will also include state-of-the-art training, proof of process and machining/fabrication areas. Among the company’s offerings are custom-designed and manufactured robots that reduce human interaction with hazardous, radioactive environments.
“We’re proud to help Babcock & Wilcox Intech grow by adding them to the roster of companies at Hamilton County’s Centre South Industrial Park,” Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said. “This is a great example of how the public sector can work with the private sector to support the creation of new family-wage jobs.”
Intech, which was established in Chattanooga in 1995, was acquired by The Babcock & Wilcox Company in 2008. The company provides expertise in non-destructive examination (NDE) inspection for the nuclear industry along with maintenance and repair, robotic tooling and process development for the fossil and nuclear markets.
