By 1853, the area had grown significantly, becoming home to three colleges and several academies. After World War II, Murfreesboro and Rutherford County transitioned from agriculture to industry and manufacturing—a shift that set the stage for the modern economic landscape we see in 2025.
Today, Murfreesboro’s transformation continues. Its population has more than doubled since the 1990s, and as of 2023, is estimated at over 165,000, making it one of the fastest-growing cities in Tennessee and among the top 20 in the nation.
