• German-based manufacturer selects Tennessee for its first U.S. facility, invests more than
    $3 million in Washington County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community
Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and BorTec USA officials announced today
the company has selected Northeast Tennessee as its first U.S. location.

BorTec will invest a total of $3.1 million and create 35 new jobs in Washington County through
the project, which establishes a heat treatment plant in Johnson City.

The new operations will mainly produce wear and corrosion-resistant pipes for the oil and gas
industries. BorTec is a subsidiary to German-based BorTec Group. The company will more than
double its worldwide headcount through the Tennessee facility.

Since 2020, TNECD has supported nearly 10 economic development projects in Washington
County, resulting in approximately 660 job commitments and $92.3 million in capital
investments.

QUOTES
“Tennessee’s pro-business climate and strong workforce continue to attract global brands like
BorTec. I thank this company for creating greater opportunity for families across Northeast
Tennessee, and I’m proud to welcome them to the Volunteer State.” – Gov. Bill Lee

“BorTec is the latest international company to recognize Tennessee’s commitment to a
business-friendly atmosphere, and I’m grateful for their significant investment in our state.
We’re excited for both the company and the community to innovate and expand skilled trades
throughout the region, and I thank all our partners for bringing this project to fruition.” – TNECD
Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter

“BorTec chose Tennessee as the location for its new facility due to several key factors. The
Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) provided valuable
assistance and resources to support the company’s expansion plans. Tennessee offers a highly
favorable business environment, with low tax burdens, reasonable operating costs, and an
abundant skilled workforce. The state’s excellent transportation infrastructure enables efficient
distribution of BorTec’s products across the U.S. Additionally, Tennessee’s low energy prices,
including some of the nation’s lowest electricity rates, translate to significant cost savings for
BorTec’s energy-intensive operations. These combined advantages make Tennessee an ideal
location for BorTec’s new facility.” – BorTec USA CEO Ralph Hunger

“TVA and BrightRidge congratulate BorTec on its decision to establish operations in Johnson
City. Helping to support companies creating jobs and investment in the region is fundamental to
TVA’s mission of service. We are proud to partner with the City of Johnson City, Washington
County Economic Development Council, Northeast Tennessee Valley Regional Industrial
Development Association and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community
Development to further that mission and look forward to BorTec’s future business success.”
John Bradley, TVA senior vice president of economic development

“Washington County is thrilled to have attracted a new company to our community. We are
looking forward to working with BorTec toward a long and prosperous future.” – Sen. Rusty
Crowe (R-Johnson City)

“I am honored that BorTec chose Johnson City as its first base in the United States. This plant
will be an important investment in Washington County and a great addition to our business
