TNECD Announces 14 Counties Selected for Housing Market Analyses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD), in partnership with Points Consulting, today announced 14 counties that will receive a Housing Market Analysis.

The counties are Carter, Clay, Cocke, Cumberland, Dickson, Greene, Marshall, Overton, Putnam, Sequatchie, Scott, Sullivan, Sumner and Unicoi. The plans will help the counties better understand their housing needs and provide steps that they can take to increase housing availability in their communities.

“Every county in Tennessee, from our urban centers to our rural communities, faces a need for housing,” said Deputy Gov. and Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter. “As our success in economic development continues to drive growth across the state, we must ensure our communities have the housing infrastructure needed to keep pace. These 14 counties will now have the critical data and insights required to better match supply with demand and attract the developers necessary to meet their needs.”

Each county will also receive a site visit from Points Consulting, a consultancy focused on strategies related to economic development, housing, and land use, and a customized review of their housing needs. Those elements include information regarding housing units needed to meet population growth, ownership and rental housing, single and multi-family housing and practical steps they can take to support continued community development.

“Through our work in preparing West Tennessee for BlueOval City, we saw firsthand how valuable county-specific housing data can be to local leaders planning for growth,” said TNECD Assistant Commissioner of Community and Rural Development Brooxie Carlton. “These analyses build on that experience and give 14 additional counties the information and practical tools they need to understand housing demand, engage development partners and support the continued growth of their communities.”

The initiative builds on housing market analyses completed for every county in West Tennessee over the past several years as part of the preparation for growth associated with Blue Oval City. This next phase expands that work to 14 additional counties, giving local leaders the information they need to make informed housing decisions and support economic growth.
